The Tao of Fully Feeling: Harvesting Forgiveness Out of Blame - Pete Walker - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of The Tao of Fully Feeling: How to develop emotional intelligence, even though your parents suck. My favorite Pete Walker quote from the book: "Children cannot experience the raw, ongoing pain of parental rejection and still maintain the desire to live." Questions to ponder while reading The Tao of Fully Feeling: Have you been able to overcome your childhood trauma? Have you been able to forgive yet? My review of the book: Goes directly into the challenges facing those raised by bad parents. A good process of grieving and recovery. I, personally, think that a close relationship with God, as well as a community to worship with (and replace the family ties), is integral to healing. However, it sounds like the author had a really bad experience with it. **************************************** a.d. elliott is a wanderer, writer, and photographer currently living in Salem, Virginia.  In addition to the travel writings at  www.takethebackroads.com , you can ...

Thief River Falls - Brian Freeman - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of Thief River Falls: A local author copes with tragedy while attempting to save a mysterious child. My favorite Brian Freeman quote from the book: "Writing is a mirror. If someone doesn't like what you write, maybe it's because they don't like what they see in the reflection." Questions to ponder while reading Thief River Falls: How has tragedy affected you? Do you support the Second Amendment? My review of the book: I was so confused.  I was sure she should have died, more than once. I was so shocked by the ending. **************************************** a.d. elliott is a wanderer, writer, and photographer currently living in Salem, Virginia.  In addition to the travel writings at  www.takethebackroads.com , you can also read her book reviews at  www.riteoffancy.com  and US military biographies at  www.everydaypatriot.com Her online photography gallery can be found at  shop.takethebackroads.com #TaketheBackRoads Like my page? Wall Of Silence - Tracy Buchanan - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of Wall of Silence: All right you kids, which one of you tried to kill your father? My favorite Tracy Buchanan quote from the book: "It's something you get used to, hiding the bad stuff." Questions to ponder while reading Wall of Silence: Have you ever wondered what your husband was up to? Is it ever ok to gossip? My review of the book: An entertaining little mystery. Great buildup and anticipation. I got a little impatient with some of the character's quirks. A Killer's Wife - Victor Methos - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of A Killer's Wife: A legal mind copes with the closeness of a copycat killer. My favorite Victor Methos quote from the book: "Hindsight has the power to make us feel like fools." Questions to ponder while reading the book: Why, as a species, are we so cruel to each other? Would you ever be able to date again? My review of A Killer's Wife: Such an unexpectedly fun thriller. I couldn't put it down. It makes you wonder how well you really know a person. The Last of the Moon Girls - Barbara Davis - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of The Last of the Moon Girls: Returning home after the death of a grandparent. My favorite Barbara Davis quote from the book: "Illusions have no power - unless we insist on clinging to them." Questions to ponder while reading The Last of the Moon Girls: Does your family have a past? How is your relationship with your mother? My review of the book: A quick fun little mystery. A family dysfunction story at its most pagan. A great "dark and stormy night" read. The Moonlight Child - Karen McQuestion - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of The Moonlight Child: How Niki discovered Mia. My favorite Karen McQuestion quote from the book: "Life as an honest person could be difficult, but life as a criminal always caught up to you." Questions to ponder while reading The Moonlight Child: Have you ever considered fostering! How do you treat those close to you? My review of the book: Surprisingly engrossing. Addictions cause so much pain. We really need to beef up Child and Family Services. Beneath a Scarlet Sky - Mark T. Sullivan - A Short Summary & Review

Image
A short summary of Beneath a Scarlet Sky: The secrets and sacrifices of Pino Lella's WWII service. My favorite Pino Lella quote from the book: "Life is change, constant change, and unless we are lucky enough to find comedy in it, change is nearly always a drama, if not a tragedy." Questions to ponder while reading Beneath a Scarlet Sky: What type of "service to one's enemies" is appropriate during a war? How should one treat one's enemies? My review of the book: A totally engrossing story that was based upon true events. A look into the often-overlooked WWII Italian Front. I wish the knowledge of the Catholic Underground was more widespread. **************************************** a.d. elliott is a wanderer, writer, and photographer currently living in Salem, Virginia.  In addition to the travel writings at  www.takethebackroads.com , you can also read her book reviews at  www.riteoffancy.com  and US military biographies at  www.everydaypatriot.com He...
